Using your Cell Phone as Modem

Sunday, February 04, 2007

There is a problem with smartphones that many people face every day: not all of them have Bluetooth, USB, or Infrared connectivity, making the work hard for thousands of people who need these devices as productivity tools.

Even though, most handsets are web-enabled and connect to the Internet can be a solution transmitting files to an online location or email address for later retrieval.

However, a new problem arises when there is no access to Wi-Fi hot spots to access the Internet. Whether your phone has connectivity options or if you find yourself in a wireless area, you can use your cell phone as a modem to connect to the Internet.

For such purpose you need a handset that can handle voice and data transmission, this means web-enable devices, as most of them are today although, not specified by the manufacturer, they include built-in modems.

If your cell phone has a data port, you can use it as modem to send data to the Internet as if it were a dialup connection or connect to another computer or laptop with the aid of special connection kits that most carriers sell as service packages.

Contact your cell service provider or visit retail electronics or an outlet store to buy one of these kits and you will always stay connected.
